National Doughnut Day

Today’s holiday even has it’s own Wikipedia entry – a rarity in our database of holidays.  National Doughnut Day is celebrated the first Friday in June and was created by the Salvation Army in 1938 to honor all the women who made doughnuts for the soldiers of World War One.  More than 70 years later the doughnut is still going strong, from the traditional cake doughnut to the new boutique doughnut shops popping up across the country with unique flavors like maple and bacon.
